“Elio” Research

The biggest obstacle I found in the production of this assignment was coming up with something to do. I love stop motion, but I’m not very comfortable with 3D media. I saw this piece, and figured  out paper toys weren’t so scary and I could try something with them.

This piece was produced by 3D animator and motion graphics artist Rob Diaz. It was made with paper toys and shot with a cell phone. The story is simple and funny, and I was very inspired by the materials. I tried doing something similar, but didn’t succeed.

“Viliam” Research

I was very inspired by this piece because I love the depth and textures that can be created with paper cutouts. This film was produced by Veronika Obertová, and it was her grad film for graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, in Bratislava, Slovakia. She won various awards for this great film. Her other work features stop motion animation, motion graphics, and digital cutouts. Her portfolio website is HERE . Obertová has partnered with Michaela Copíková, an animator who’s lived and worked in the US and Europe to create the studio Ove Pictures.

“Paper Airplane” research

This amazing piece was created by Agency muh-tay-zik for Premiere Global Services.
This piece was directed by Nando Costa,  a Brazilian artist living in Oregon. He’s a graphic designer, illustrator, and animator. His work is mostly commercial motion graphics, but he has a strong background in fine arts. You can check out his website HERE

The illustrations for the piece were made by Betsy Walton, a painter/illustrator from Kansas now living in Oregon. Her work features beautiful geometric abstractions, which add precious depths and textures to the animation. She has a strong gallery practice, and also works in various personal projects. THIS is her website.

For the agency website, click HERE. They have tons of amazing work, it’s great to see so many talented people working together to make these great pieces.
